27 Aug 12 Saachi Gallery
Korean Eye 2012. What a fantastic gallery. What a fantastic exhibition. To see so many different styles of art was great. The large pictures of Bae Joonsung that evolved as you moved around the room. http://www.baejoonsung.com/
Hong Sung Chui with printed elastic string that only reveals the image as a solid when you stand in the correct position in front of the work of art. http://laughingsquid.com/string-mirrors-mixed-media-sculptures-by-hong-sungchul/
I am going to visit the Saachi again soon I think, it is well worth the visit and the staff are very friendly.
The art on display is something to be seen.

27 July 12 Museum Ludwig
Koln or Cologne, Germany. I was disappointed at how few photographic works were on display, but what was on display was inspiring. "American Places" American Landscape Photography from the Photographic Collection at Museum Ludwig. Works by William Eggleson, Ansel Adams and Charles L Weed were display.
Original prints of Choate J.N. "Carlisle Indian School" were fascinating and the tones were fantastic.
"Vernal Fall" by Lebeck S were breathtaking and even as a modest size print gave the impression of huge space. http://www.museenkoeln.de/museum-ludwig/default.asp?s=785
Another exhibit worth a mention was Claes Oldenburg "The Sixties". Sculptors of everyday objects made of textiles often blown out of proportion. http://www.museenkoeln.de/museum-ludwig/default.asp?s=3809
25 May 12 Colchester Library
The local Library often has displays of local artists, today was no different.
The display today was of the artist Claire Heaton who's paintings were either landscapes with trees in silhouette or of elf's and the woods. It was only a small display but it made me realise that it was alright to work with a theme and variation.
23 May 12 Imperial War Museum, Holocaust Exhilaration
The displays of photographs are often very moving, but many are of people just going about their normal life. There are a mix of professional and armature photographs and it is clear to see which are which. Once you get past the subject matter the photography aspect are striking.
23 May 12 The Photographers' Gallery
I was due to work in London on this day and so scheduled myself to arrive a few hours early so that I could visit this gallery. The Photographers' Gallery has recently under gone a refurbishment and they have extended the building skywards.
I was a little disappointed with my visit, I was expecting more to be on display. But what was on display was inspiring.
The display was " Burtynsky: Oil" and this will be shown until the 01 July 12
21 March 12 Tate Modern
Managed to get to the Tate Modern for a look about. I had never been before and so wasn't sure what to expect. I found the sculptures on the top floor first and planned to make my way down thought each floor. This turned out to be a mistake. It changed my whole sense of mind from intrigue to dismissive. I will return again but I will miss out the top floor. It is not my thing.
However ..
this was good..
(all the following information has been taken from the Tate modern website.)http://www.tate.org.uk/modern/exhibitions/newdocumentary%20forms/default.shtm
"Photography: New Documentary Forms
This new five-room display explores the ways in which five contemporary artists have used the camera to explore, extend and question the power of photography as a documentary medium. Consisting entirely of new acquisitions to Tate’s collection, it includes recent work by Luc Delahaye, Mitch Epstein, Guy Tillim and Akram Zaatari, as well as two important earlier works by Boris Mikhailov. Between them they cover subjects as diverse as the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, studio photography in Beirut, elections in the Congo, everyday life in pre- and post-Soviet Ukraine, and power production in the United States. Each room concerns one discrete project, in which the artist calls into question the relationship between the documentary value of photography and the museum as its proper context."

I found this display really interesting. The composition of the images having to be thought of almost three dimensional before being put onto a two dimensional plain.

"Cubism, Futurism, Vorticism (Room 2)
In the early years of the twentieth century, artists forged a radically new image of the world."I found this display really interesting. The composition of the images having to be thought of almost three dimensional before being put onto a two dimensional plain.
Photographs that I particularly liked were:
